FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cenovus Energy sponsors the Squirrel Hills Trail Park with $10,000

Valley Life Recreation is proud to formally announce a Platinum level $10,000 contribution toward the Squirrel Hills Trail Park by Cenovus Energy.

For over 50 years, one of the most visible Minnedosa landmarks has been the processing plant on highway #10. What was first built to function as a distillery in the 1960s, now operates today as a large scale ethanol plant operated by Cenovus. (On January 1, 2021 Cenovus Energy acquired Husky Energy.)

In July 2021, Board members from Valley Life Recreation met with Cenovus and discovered an eager willingness of the company to play an active and vibrant role in the community. Through these discussions it was determined there was an opportunity to assist Valley Life Recreation in achieving a variety of potential goals with the Squirrel Hills Trail Park.

One of the goals of our social investment activities is to help ensure the continued resilience of the communities where we live and work, making this an excellent fit for Cenovus. This is a great community initiative as the Squirrel Hills Trail Park provides people with the opportunity to take advantage of the wonderful things the area has to offer, while promoting personal health and at the same time helping to protect the environment. It’s great to be part of celebrating the beauty of Minnedosa and Manitoba.

Tanya Nader, Senior Manager, Cenovus Minnedosa Ethanol Plant

This contribution from Cenovus brings the total funds Valley Life Recreation has raised over the last 10 months to 40% of the total park budget.

We are very excited to begin this wonderful partnership with Cenovus Energy. We look forward to a great relationship with them as we continue to discuss future partnership initiatives. These initiatives will better our community through the work our organization undertakes to further connect people to one another, to outdoor recreation, and to the spaces that collectively make our home. The encouragement that Cenovus has provided Valley Life Recreation with has helped us build a stronger organization and we look forward to their continued guidance.

Dave Ternier, VLR Board Chair

The Board of Valley Life Recreation is very pleased and honoured to have been granted this funding by Cenovus to further their goals to build the Squirrel Hills Trail Park, a place that will represent what Outdoors For Everyone truly means.
