June 1, 2024 — Valley Life Recreation (VLR) is proud to announce and provide details on their first-ever Pride-themed event at the Squirrel Hills Trail Park from 10am – 12 noon on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Everyone is invited to attend this cost-free event to celebrate Pride Month and all members of our 2SLGBTQ+ community. Allies and queer community members alike are invited to come out on June 22 and use the space of trails to demonstrate diversity, inclusion and support for all. No pre-event registration is required.
The event will consist of various activities at the trailhead for children, group hikes, group mountain bike rides, and a group trail run. If any of these trail activities are new for you, please join VLR for an all inclusive opportunity to explore trails in a safe and welcoming manner. Whatever your sexual orientation or gender identity—you are welcome.
In addition, snacks and beverages will be available to everyone. Various local agencies and groups will also be set up with resource materials. If you represent a group that supports 2SLGBTQ+ causes and you’d like to participate, please reach out to VLR by sending an email to Valley Life Recreation.
The event is being supplied to everyone at no cost through a funding grant acquired through the Manitoba Pride Alliance. For those interested in helping support additional event costs not covered by the grant, please contact Valley Life Recreation.
Valley Life Recreation believes in celebrating diversity and creating public spaces in which that diversity can be celebrated. We believe in embracing and celebrating the diversity within our community, and a Pride-themed event on the trails is a fantastic way to honour and support all 2SLGBTQ+ community members.
Valley Life Recreation will also need a few volunteers to help with Trail Pride. Please email us if you’d like to be added to the volunteer list. If you’d like to organize an activity or contribute to Trail Pride in some way, please reach out to Valley Life Recreation.
Together, let’s make trails a place where everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated. See you at the Squirrel Hills Trail Park, west off of highway 10/16 on PR 355, on the morning of June 22, 2024! 🌈 (Tap here for trailhead location.)
